Budgets made available at Gettysburgtimes.com
The Gettysburg Times
The Gettysburg Times recently launched a new page on its website which allows readers to view the complete budgets of government bodies.
Budgets of Adams County’s public school districts – Bermudian Springs, Gettysburg, Littlestown, Upper Adams, Fairfield and Conewago Valley – can be reviewed at www.gettysburgtimes.com/news/government_budgets . The school district budgets cover the fiscal year that began July 1, 2010 and ends June 30, 2011.
“We’re happy, through the magic of the Internet, to help area schools be pro-active to the taxpayers’ Right-to- Know,” Times Editor B.J. Small said. “We see our part as a public service in that these documents include good reference data throughout the school year. A better-informed readership is a more effective public when it comes to expenditures, especially when it is our own money.”
The fiscal years of Adams County and municipal governments coincide with calendar years and state law dictates those budgets must be passed by Dec. 30. They will then be added to the Times’ website for readers to reference.
The budgets are public documents under Pennsylvania’s Right to Know Law. They are available for public inspection at the offices of the respective governing bodies.
Small said having the documents available on the newspaper’s website gives residents easier access, especially residents of smaller municipalities that may have limited office hours or no website of their own.
