RTKL amendment bill considered in Senate

The Senate State Government Committee met “off the floor” Wednesday to consider Senate Bill 444, Senator Dominic Pileggi’s Right to Know Law amendment bill. Two amendments were adopted, and the bill was voted out of committee.
One amendment, offered by Committee Chairman Lloyd Smucker (R-Lancaster), made several changes, including the removal of language that would have allowed agencies to claim a request was “unduly burdensome.”
The second amendment, offered by Sen. Matt Smith (D-Allegheny), calls for enhanced reporting and disclosure for the four state-related universities.
In the House, Rep. Michelle Brownlee (D-Philadelphia) introduced a bill that would amend the Crime Victims’ Act to specify that information related to a victim and housed within the Office of Victim Advocate could not be disclosed in a Right to Know Law request.
The bill, House Bill 2347, has been referred to House Judiciary.
Also in the House, Rep. Jim Christiana (R-Beaver) is circulating a co-sponsorship memo for a bill that would require agencies to make agendas public prior to public meetings.
