Moving 5th grade into the middle school
Jun 27th, 2010 at 12:39pm

Our school district wants to place 5th grade in middle school, the parents do not want this.

They need to put on a 25,000 S.F. Addition to accommodate 5th grade. They could save us money by redistricting. There is a need to redistrict due to the addition of all day kinderga

Our administration started a redistricting committee, and a few of the upper class neighborhoods did not want their children moved to a less desirable neighborhood school, so they suggested placing 5th grade in middle school.

Therefore the redistricting committee changed to a grade reorganization committee they made their recommendation to the board, and about three weeks later the board voted to make this change.

I believe that the school district should have informed the public  of this switch BEFORE  the school board voted.

There are never many people at the board meetings and the board did not tape this meeting for the public to watch on TV.

Do the parents have any say in this matter? What is our best course of action.

A petition was started , with 466 signatures, we would like to be heard before the bids for the addition are due back in July.

has anyone fought this and won?

Can you tell me if you have fought this and lost?

Also, am i missing something, why are so many schools doing this and the new certification for teachers now includes 5th grade as middle school certification.

Please help.
